Thoughts:

A couple of things about the songs from this past Sunday.  The band Capstone is no longer together(as far as I know).  I discovered them on Napster about 10 years ago.  Also, the song God of this City was written and recorder originally by the band Bluetree.  Chris Tomlin heard it, covered it, and then made it huge.  Check out the original, there are more lyrics.

I love the song God of This City.  I also love the direction we are headed in Genesis.  We keep saying it because we believe it: Be the Church/We are the Church.  God has called us to it.  We are his representatives here on earth.  We are to shine his light in a dark world.  The song says "Greater things have yet to come, greater things are still to be done, in this city." That inspires me.  I've heard from so many people that we live in a very dark place and it is hard to do ministry here.  I believe that God's love is greater than that.  I believe that if we can share his love, it will outshine any doubt or cynicism. I believe it's time for a revival in Santa Cruz county and it starts with us.  It starts with us crying out to God and being the church everywhere we go.

2009.02.15

Setlist:

Your Grace is Enough - Chris Tomlin

O Praise Him - David Crowder

Healer - Michael Guglielmucci

You're Beautiful - Phil Wickham

Came to My Rescue - Marty Sampson, Joel Davies, & Dylan Thomas

So here are some thoughts...

As I was looking up writers and stuff, I found out something very disturbing and sad. When I first heard the song "Healer" by Michael Guglielmucci, it was a promo video for the album/DVD from Hillsong. The video was of Michael singing with an oxygen tube connected to his nose. His story was that he was suffering from terminal cancer and that He was believing God for his healing. It turns out that he never had cancer and that he was living a lie. It's really sad to see. It doesn't affect how I feel about the song or my decision to sing it or not. What he did was disgraceful and since then I think he's been getting help. My prayer is that the testimony of Christ isn't affected too much. It goes to show you that we are all broken. We all suffer from different issues. Here is the video of an interview he did after the news broke about him. We are no better or worse than him. Remember Jesus' words:

Matthew 7:1-3 - 1"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?

What is this?

Hey everyone.  It's Adrian.  If you don't know me, I'm the worship pastor at Genesis.  So basically I am that guy singing up front.  So here we go.  Let me tell you a little something about this blog. Every week people come up to me after service asking for bands and worship leaders that write the songs that we sing at Genesis.  What I would like to do is put up the list of songs we sing each week with authors and links to listen/buy their music.  I might also write some thoughts on songs and worship too.  So check back here and enjoy.  And if you have any questions or requests just let me know.

Adrian
