Thoughts:

One of my favorite things that happens at a church service is God doing what he wants despite all of our plans. Proverbs 19:21 puts it perfectly: "Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails." So we planned on six songs and actually sang three.

Today we had a breakfast/sharing morning.  We set up tables and have a time of food and fellowship.  And instead of a message is a time where the community has a chance to share what's on their hearts and how God has been moving in their lives. And so the plan was to sing two songs, have breakfast, share, and then sing 4 more songs.  Well, we sang the first two songs, had breakfast, the Kirkendalls (a tragic/great story) shared, and then we opened it up for everyone else to share.  By the time everyone had shared, time was up.  We decided to sing one more song and then dismiss.  It was a sweet time of hearing the hurt people are going through and the triumph others were experiencing.  It was both challenging us to pray as a community and celebrate together for what God has been doing.  I don't care that we don't sing all the songs we rehearsed or planned for.  It was great to see God move.

Glory to God, Forever - Steve Fee

Here I Am to Worship - Tim Hughes

Divine Romance - Phil Wickham

Thoughts:

There is a great new worship song.  Glory to God, Forever is a simple and powerful song by Fee.  They're last album wasn't a favorite of mine, but this new song has just got it.  Very catchy and great lyrics.  Not too much else this week.

One last thing.  If you want to learn new songs and see how the artist/writer plays/sings it check out the New Song Cafe at Worship Together

Thoughts:

Sometimes as a worship pastor/leader/whatever I am caught in this small conflict on stage.  It happened this past Sunday.  I can't tell you why, but I while singing some of the songs I was on the verge of weeping.  I don't say that like that's never happened to me, but I can't tell when that's going to happen.  The conflict comes in when I start to think (probably my biggest problem). Here are my thoughts: I am really worshiping right now; I want to just cry; Do people think I'm doing this for effect? How are they going to sing along if I don't sing? I have to try and hold this back. It's funny when I think back on it now.  Who cares? Not that I don't care about the worship experience, but if God is moving in my own heart up there, who am I to try and supress that?  I still don't know what the "right" thing is. I guess it's part of the journey.

Here are the lines that really made me choke up:

"You see the depths of my heart and You love me the same" - Indescribable
"Yea He loves us, or how He loves us, oh how He loves us, oh how He loves" - How He Loves
